Sierra and Jeremy's New Challenge

Life is difficult. And it comes with all kinds of surprises. 

Consider three— soon to be four— extraordinary people. 

Sierra is a skillful, loving and kind teacher who works at Cayuga Heights Elementary School. 

Jeremy is a talented builder and problem solver who works for a housing startup in Ithaca, New York 

Hudson is 4. She is adorable.

First, the good news! Sierra and Jeremy are pregnant and it’s a BOY! 

Hudson is thrilled— in October a family of three will become a family of four. 

Now, the not so good news. During a routine prenatal check up doctors discovered that the baby Sierra is carrying showed signs of Spina Bifida. Follow up tests confirmed the diagnosis. 

Luckily, there are doctors in Philadelphia who specialize in a daring form of surgery that has been shown to greatly improve the outcome of babies with Spina Bifida. Even better, Sierra qualifies for the surgery!

But. 

Ithaca is 185.8 miles from Philadelphia, as the crow flies. 

And.

Sierra has to stay in Philadelphia on strict bed rest until the baby is born (4+ months from now).

That costs $$$$$ that this young family does not have. 

So.
