Sid Fights Lymphoma

On January 3rd, 2021, my family heard four words we never thought we would hear: “they think it’s lymphoma.”


After experiencing horrible stomach pain, my dad went to urgent care to see what they could figure out. There, the doctors discovered a large mass in his abdomen. After running some tests and discussing his symptoms, the doctors suspected cancer.


On Wednesday of that week, a biopsy was done to see exactly what my dad was facing. On Monday, January 11th, he was diagnosed with “diffuse large B cell lymphoma” (DLBCL), which is a type of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (NHL). The next day, he was brought in for a PET scan to see if/how far the cancer has spread.


Thankfully, the cancer is only in two spots: his stomach and his chest. However, given the locations, it is Stage III DLBCL.


This past Monday my dad began chemotherapy, DA-EPOCH-R to be exact, which he receives through a chest port. Due to having to carry around his medicine pump, and since chemo is so hard on the body, he is unable to really work at this time.


The good news: the oncologist says he has a really good chance at beating this! While DLBCL is a very aggressive form of NHL, it’s also one of the most treatable. Thankfully it was caught before it spread throughout his whole body.


But, cancer treatment is VERY expensive, as everyone knows.
