Help Jo Yardley get a new computer

Donation protected

I am Jo Yardley, builder of the 1920s Berlin Project and Time Portal sims in Second Life.
Both these sims are very successful and the home  of wonderful communities.
Berlin recently celebrated its 8th anniversary!

Building and maintaining these places has become a full time job for me and although it allows me to stay at home it isn't really enough to actually put money aside for a rainy day.
And this rainy day has come.

For years I've been working with second hand computers, most barely manage to run SL at a graphics setting better than basic.

When I need to make good looking screenshots with ultra settings and shadows, it can take for ever for everything to rez, I can barely move and often viewers and even the computer crash.

This makes working very difficult.
On top of all this, my beaten up alienware laptop is getting older, made in 2011, it is literally kept together with ductape and recently started howling like a banshee when I start it up, I'm not even kidding.
When I got it it was already second hand and had battery issues, the graphics card gave up on me not much later.
Nobody knows how this old thing keeps working and when it will finally give up.

Besides SL being difficult to be in, it has kept me from joining Sansar or try out the new headset technologies.
My bad old computer is causing me to get behind on the whole virtual world scene and it is time I get a new one.

I feel uncomfortable about asking for money like this but people keep telling me I should and I guess I have to put  my pride aside because sooner or later this computer will die and then I'll be gone from SL till I can find some sort of way to fund the new computer myself, which is extra difficult now as I'm about to move to the other side of the country.

So lets not think about this as a way to help me get a new computer, but a fundraise to make me finally shut up about how bad my computer is.

The new computer will have to be a beast, probably one of those gaming machines.
On top of that, it will need to be a laptop.
I hear you gasp, why a laptop!
As I mentioned before, SL has become a fulltime job an even when I do my other RL job (researcher), I do this behind the computer.
So I spend pretty much every day, all day behind a computer.
I do not want to sit behind a desk all day and I do not want a bit plastic box with wires to take up a lot of space either.
To keep myself sane I work in different spots all the time, on the daybed by the wireless, on the balcony when the weather isn't too hot, in front of the fireplace during winter, etc.
And when I visit my parents, I still have to be able to log into SL now and then and I can't bring a dektop on the train with me.

I've asked around and the computer I need will probably cost between $1500 and 2000.
I've tried saving up money for it but that is just not in the cards for me.

A new computer will allow me to finally experience SL the way it should be experienced, see my own creations in full living colour in stead of grey, see my friends fully rez again quickly in stead of after 10 minutes or more.
I will finally be able to try out Sansar and provide all those poor people there with proper schnaps.
I might even be able to work with VR headsets.
I'll be able to catch up and finally work in SL again without the amount of frustration that's caused me to swear at my computer like a drunken sailor many times.

And when I benefit, everyone in 1920s Berlin, Time Portal and perhaps a future Sansar community (or at least dirty old schnaps fuelled basement bar) will benefit.

If you don't have a credit card or can't use gofundme for any reason, let me know and I'll give you other ways to help out.

Thank you all in advance.
