This is my one and only son, Shumiaye. The past few years he has battled Type II Diabetes, High Blood Pressure and Diverticulitus--he's 28.
Last night Shumiaye went to sleep and never awoke. He was not complaining but his big sister noticed he was struggling to hidsyptoms that his diverticulitis was acting up again--severe stomach pain. She heard him groning in pain before she left for work that morning. He took a shower and went into his room to lay down. She got home from work and he was still sleeping so she cracked open his bedroom door to allow his cat to come and go. Big sister, as he called her, went out to eat. When she returned, she noticed his door was still ajar so she pushed it open and walked in to wake him up. She was alarmed that he hadn't moved since earlier in the day so she shook him. Shumiaye was cold. Shumiaye is gone. My 28 year old son went to lay down because he wasn't feeling welll and never woke up.
Shumiaye has battled depression most of his life. He had been bullied in grade school, he suffered many things but the worst was losing his younger sister to bullying eight years ago. It made him angry and sad. My son fought hard to be here for his big sister and me....he tried to perservere but we do not get to choose the time the Lord takes.
We are reaching out to friends and family for help laying my son to rest....He is my only son and this is my last chance to show respect and say good bye.
