Show Low Road Race Victims & Families

Donation protected

This page is put together to raise funds for the victims and families affected by the tragedy that occurred at the AZ State Championship Road Race.

On June 19th, a truck crossed into the oncoming traffic lanes and drove into a pack of ~30 bike racers head-on in Show Low, Arizona. The field was the Master's Men who were about a mile into their race for the Arizona State Championship title. The truck was an intoxicated driver who was later shot in a police chase.

There was at least 10 riders admitted to the hospitals across the state and many are currently in critical condition.

This gofundme is meant to help with as many medical bills, hotel rooms for families (most riders are at hospitals outside of their hometowns), bike replacements, and anything else we can help with.

If you can't donate, please take the time to share with your friends and family
Also please continue to advocate for bicycle safety and keep these victims in your thoughts & prayers.

The plan for dispersal as of now (6/22):

Two people will be opening an account that the funds will be dispersed into. All riders and families are in the process of being located and contacted. All riders who are contacted are told to keep receipts and quotes of medical expenses, hotel stays, food, gas, bike repair or replacement, and any other expenses that will make the recovery process better.
Once we have a gauge on all riders who required medical attention, receive quotes and receipts, all info is compiled by the victim outreach team which consists of:
Organizer Jenny Quijada
Jodie Oates
Cara O'Neill
Dan Orlowski
Shawna Glazier
(team is constantly growing)

The riders will receive the amount of funds they request. If there are any leftover funds, the victims will have the full authority over where those funds should be donated. The community outreach team will compile a list of bicycle and traffic advocacy foundations if the riders want to go that route.
The community outreach team current consists of:
Jenny Quijada
Stephen Schaefer
Ben Wuollet
Sarah Vanier
Brody Coffman
Molly Joyce

All receipts of transactions will be documented and all dispersal methods will be via Zelle or checks to the families so records could be kept. Families and the amount they received will be confidential but all transactions will be posted for transparency. The account will be a joint account to ensure that if one of the organizers cannot be reached at a time of need, the families of the victims can still contact the second account-holder

Donors hoping to pay by check, please allow a couple of days for the account to be set-up. This is a large amount and as a schoolteacher, I cannot afford to be taxed on this if I set it up improperly. I will post an update when I can accept checks and where they should be sent to.
