Nor’ Eastern Storm is an award winning All-Star Competitive Cheer Gym located in Salisbury, Maryland.  NES was established in 2006 and in 2015 was named the Small Gym of the Year award by USASF, US All Star Federation, at their Worlds Event in Florida. In 2010, Owner Pam Duke approached Coaches Lauri Andrews, Katya Andrews, and Karli Boog to determine if a Special Needs cheer team would be viable in our region. In August 2010, the NES Shooting Stars was created.

The first team consisted of 10 members, 3 coaches and 6 cheerleader helpers from other teams in the gym. The team and the coaches learned how to work together and how to challenge the athletes to maintain their interest and help them grow within the program and in skills that were transferable to their everyday lives. At that time, Special Needs Cheer was an Exhibition sport. Over time, our team has grown in size and currently has 20-25 members each year. There has also been a change in opportunities that allows Special Needs teams to choose to be in a Competitive Level 2 division. This division holds the athletes and teams to the same level rules and skills as other teams.

The Shooting Stars athletes have pushed the coaches to train them at a higher level and expect them to meet the same standards as all other All Star teams at our gym. Our athletes train hard and are never afraid to try a new skill. Their growth has been exponential. By the end of the 2016 season, they had begun to win most small competitions and were a strong second in state and national events.  On January 21, 2017, NES Shooting Stars won their first National Championship at the Maryland Cup Nationals in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. They have since received first place at 4 additional competitions including two National Competitions.

Based on our experience and the motivation of the athletes, parents, and coaches, we are hoping to go to the NCA, National Cheerleaders Association All-Star National Championship held on February 23-25 in Dallas, Texas. Due to the health and support needs of our individuals, they will each require one caregiver to assist them with travel and their personal care needs at the event. This once in a lifetime opportunity will require a significant amount of financial support. We hope that you will be open and willing to assist us to make this dream come true for these incredible athletes.

Thank you,

Coach Lauri Andrews – Program Director for LSE for 29 years

Coach Katya Andrews – LGSW at PRMC and former gymnast and cheerleader

Coach Karli Boog – Teacher at Pocomoke Middle School and former cheerleader
