Shirley Anne's Heart

My daughter and her husband (Brianna and Joseph Rodriguez) are expecting their first child, a sweet baby girl named Shirley. During their routine 20 week anatomy scan the doctor noticed that something was wrong with little Shirley's heart. After several doctor's appointments and ultrasounds she was diagnosed with a very rare congenital heart defect called truncus arteriosus. There are only 300 cases of this particular condition in the United States per year.
Shirley will need open heart surgery a few days after she is born and will be in the NICU for several weeks post surgery. The length of her hospital stay will vary depending on how strong she is at birth, and how quickly she recovers from surgery. Shirley will also need multiple  follow-up surgeries to correct her heart throughout her life.
Brianna will be quitting her job a month before Shirley comes in order to keep up with all the doctor's appointments required for her pregnancy. Joseph will be taking several weeks off work after she is born to be with his family in the hospital. They will be staying in Seattle while Shirley is in the NICU at Seattle Childrens Hospital. All the funds will go towards whatever medical bills they will be responsible for, lost time at work and living accomodations in Seattle.
Brianna and Joseph attended the University of Puget Sound together and graduated in 2014. They began dating only a few months afterward and were married the following year. They are so excited about having children and can't wait to welcome precious Shirley into their family.
