Hello, my name is David.
In 2017 I started an upcycling furniture charity called Shirley’s Way. Shirley’s Way is a Community Interest Company (CIC) where I upcycle old furniture and give it a new lease of life, before delivering it to people in need.
A majority of my clients are women who have been in abusive homes, and have relocated away from their dangerous living conditions and need new furniture.
I was subject to domestic abuse as a child, and my Nan, Shirley, got me back on my feet again.
I started Shirley’s Way in her name so I could help other survivors do the same.
The current pandemic has led to a huge spike in domestic abuse cases due to movement restrictions, so my services & Shirley’s Way are more needed than ever.
In 2019, my van and tools were all stolen. It meant Shirley’s Way grounded to a halt as I wasn’t able to mend and deliver furniture.
Shortly after I was diagnosed with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease - a lung disorder), and have been getting my health back ever since.
Now I’m feeling better, physically and mentally, I’m ready to get Shirley’s Way back on the road again and help people during this difficult time.
I’m asking your help to raise funds so I can replace my van and tools in order help the vulnerable people of Berkshire.
Any contribution big or small would be a huge help and incredibly appreciated.
My brilliant local church, High Street Methodist Church Maidenhead, is helping me to raise awareness of this GoFundMe Fundraiser so people can donate in order for me to serve the community.
