Shipibo Relief Fund
During my most recent visit to Peru, I spent a lot of time getting to know the Shipibo culture and its beautiful people. The Shipibos are a vibrant indigenous community of people living in remote villages along the Ucayali River in the Amazon rainforest in Peru, and they need our help.
In Peru, the government has taken drastic action in response to COVID-19. Borders are completely closed, businesses are closed, the tourism industry shuttered, foreigners stranded, public transport forbidden. Police and military patrol the streets to enforce the lockdown. This has resulted in the paralyzation of the Shipibo's economic activities and has caused families to lose their financial incomes and are struggling to feed themselves.
Most people are out of work and quickly running out of resources, and it's becoming impossible for them to buy essentials like medicine & food. There has also been a big dengue outbreak in the outlying communities and the local hospital does not have adequate resources to deal with both of these crises.
We are urgently calling on our global community, those who are able to help and are passionate about supporting the Amazon rainforest and the Shipibo to unite efforts and rise above together. Please join us in solidarity with our Shipibo brothers and sisters and extend your hand to support their families with a donation.
We will be using your donations to distribute monetary donations, medicine, and food rations to many local families. Our dollars go so much further in places like these. A donation of ~$20 can feed a family for a week, ~$100 could feed a family for a month.
With you, we can minimize the impact of the pandemic and ensure food and economic security for the Shipibos and their families. Together, we have gotten this far, and together, we will get through this. Thank you for your support.
GRACIAS!!
