Heal the Healers - the Shipibo need your help!
There is famine and there is COVID-19.
The Peruvian government’s month-long military-enforced quarantine has brought hunger to the most vulnerable Shipibo-Konibo families in the cities and river communities.
There are no jobs and no sources of income. There are no possibilities of selling food, goods, plant medicine or crafts. There are no shamanic ceremonies.
Now, there is also COVID-19 in the communities, with cases recently confirmed by a medical team in the remote community of Puerto Bethel. There are no tests and no medical attention.
The team that travelled to Puerto Bethel did so only because the representative organization of the Shipibo Nation managed to put pressure on the regional health services.
The state’s tendency to attend last to indigenous communities has always had deadly consequences. Once again, itis leading to illness and deaths. The Government has been providing basic medical services, stimulus checks and access to food banks only to some portions of urban populations.The final outcomes are yet unknown but there is real fear that this could be devastating for Shipibo-Konibo communities as for other indigenous communities in the Amazon.
Shipibo leader and president of Coshikox Ronald Suarez, in collaboration with the Shipibo Conibo Center, NY, is asking you to stand in solidarity and help raise the funds to provide self-sufficiency in food alongside soap, disinfectants and protective masks. The funds will be transferred directly to Coshikox and their distribution supervised by Coshikox and the Shipibo Conibo Center in order to guarantee transparency and effective use.
Shipibo medicine has helped countless people around the world. It is time to help heal the healers.

Hay hambre y hay COVID-19.
La cuarentena de un mes de duración impuesta por el gobierno peruano con el ejército ya ha traído hambre a las familias shipibo-konibo más vulnerables en las ciudades y comunidades fluviales.
No hay trabajos, ni fuentes de ingresos. No hay posibilidades de vender alimentos, bienes, plantas medicinales o artesanías. No hay ceremonias chamánicas.
Ahora, también hay COVID-19 en las comunidades, con casos confirmados recientemente por un equipo médico en la remota comunidad de Puerto Bethel. No hay pruebas, ni atención médica. El equipo viajó a Puerto Bethel solo después de que la organización representativa de la nación Shipibo logró presionar a los servicios regionales de salud.
La tendencia del estado de atender en último lugar a las comunidades indígenas siempre ha tenido consecuencias mortales. Una vez más, está causando enfermedades y muertes. El Gobierno ha estado proporcionando servicios médicos básicos, controles de estímulo y acceso a bancos de alimentos, pero solo a algunas partes de la población urbana. Se desconocen los resultados finales, pero existe un temor real de que esto pueda ser devastador para las comunidades shipibo-konibo como para otras comunidades indígenas en la Amazonía.
El líder de los shipibo y presidente de Coshikox, Ronald Suárez, en colaboración con el Shipibo Conibo Center de Nueva York, le pide que se solidarice y ayude a recaudar fondos para proporcionar autosuficiencia en alimentos junto con jabón, desinfectantes y máscaras protectoras.
Los fondos se transferirán directamente a Coshikox y su distribución será supervisada por Coshikox y el el Shipibo Conibo Center para garantizar la transparencia y el uso efectivo.
La medicina Shipibo ha ayudado a innumerables personas en todo el mundo. Es hora de ayudar a sanar a los sanadores.
