For over 10 years, Clifton “Cliff” Dawkins has aimed to “shine a light” around Atlanta for those most in need. In his career as a chaplain, Cliff has provided a dignified burial for over 3,500 of Atlanta’s homeless and indigent. Beyond this, Cliff has worked tirelessly to provide outreach in the form of home cooked meals and basic health services to Atlanta’s homeless and poor communities.

After years of feeding folks throughout public places in the city, Cliff was forced to change his approach when legislation was passed in Atlanta banning the use of public space to feed the homeless. So, nearly two years ago, Cliff and his wife purchased a modest church in a troubled neighborhood in west Atlanta, and picked back up where he left off – providing outreach and shining a light where it is most desperately needed. This neighborhood is a food desert, with virtually no access for its neediest residents to grocery stores, markets, or even basic health services.

After finding a permanent base for his work, Cliff has decided to expand his efforts, with a goal of not only providing food for the neighborhood’s homeless and poor, but providing additional services as well. Cliff’s aim is to establish a non-profit to serve his community centered around the following efforts:

- Food and Meal Distribution

- Health and Nutrition Education and Services

- Education and Youth Support

- Support and Community Access

The “Shine a Light” team is raising money to jump start Cliff’s efforts and provide him with the financial stability to: apply for and secure 501c3 status, make the necessary repairs and updates to our kitchen, office space and storage areas to support the programs outlined above, and acquire the necessary donation of food and supplies to support this work until more formal fundraising and donation/contribution efforts can be established.
