Mama Sherry's Memorial Fund

Hi, folks. Many of you have by now heard the sad news that Mama Sherry Ellenberg died this past week, after some years of health issues, including a recent bout of cancer.
She had a hell of a knack for lighting up a room with her warmth and humor. I know a lot of folks in the neighborhood have gotten to know that warmth and the accompanying twinkle in the eye over the course of many decades, and love her, too. It speaks volumes about her that the friends & family who were closest are also folks who’ve pretty tirelessly maintained that sense of warmth and family within the West Seattle community, too. That’s her legacy.
I think everyone understands just how difficult and expensive an extended illness of any sort can be. I’d like to ask that we pass the hat and pitch in to help Sherry’s family cover the funerary expenses, like ya do in a big ol’ extended family. Even if it’s just a little bit, it’s support they need just now. - Miranda K, creator of Meander's Kitchen
I hate having to make these things. You might imagine I'm not super thrilled about the reason I'm making this either. We sent away for one of the info packets for funeral insurance or whatever it is, but never heard back. I dont really have any savings, nor did she. There were no arrangements made.
She's going to be cremated, and her remains will be split between my brother and I. Her memorial services will likely be held in a few weeks at her favorite coffee shop, C & P. Id like to give her a sunday obituary. Id like to choose her vessels from a shop in chinatown.
I feel terrible for being in a spot where i have to beg, but I was in denial and never thought this would come. I straight up dont have the money for this.
$1200 for crematorium (cremation, death certs, county fees)
$500 for obituary (sunday paper, no photo)
$500 for vessels for ashes (one for jack, one for me)
$300 for service (food, drink, flyers, location)
She's being handled by Cremation Society Northwest, in Queen Anne. They told me if folks wanted to help out, they can call them directly; [phone redacted]. Let them know you're calling regarding Sherilyn Ellenberg.
