Shelly's Lung Transplant- Part I
If you have ever had to care for a family member, you can understand how the whole family must pull together to help them. This is what we want to do for Shelly.
This is Part I of a two part fundraiser for Shelly. We will be raising a total of $3,500 for medical expenses. The first part of the fundraiser will go toward expenses leading up to Shelly being added to the lung donor list. The hospital needs to be assured that we have money raised in order to support her before, during and after the surgery.
Once she has been added to the donor list, we will begin seeking support for Part II. The money raised will support her 2 month stay in Cleveland to recover from the surgery.
Shelly had previously been diagnosed with emphysema and her condition has worsened over time. As a result of this, she is in need of a lung transplant. She has had to undergo frequent visit to the hospitals and nursing homes to control her breathing and has to permanently carry an oxygen tank with her.
We have a very close knit family and we all understand that the journey for a new lung is not going to be an easy one. But we have all committed our time, money and other personal resources to make sure that she no longer has to live with this debilitating illness. Shelly has had problems with her breathing for a very long time, but she has recently became a great grandmother, and we want her to be around to watch little Laila grow up. 
The surgery will take place at the Cleveland Clinic. She must remain in Cleveland for 2 months after the transplant in order to recover. The money raised will be used for related medical expenses, which includes her stay in Cleveland after the surgery, money for food and transportation.
