The Day Family has been through a lot of medical adventures the past few years from broken arms, a severe concussion, an unnamed necrotic leg infection, prostate cancer (and its removal), and more. When rest finally seemed just around the corner, the adventure continued...
The word "cancer" once again entered my family's life, this time with my mother Shelly. She was diagnosed with DCIS breast cancer that required a bi-lateral mastectomy. This was found through a routine mammogram and confirmed with multiple magnification mammograms, two biopsies, and a MRI.
They have found themselves to be stronger and more confident in our loving Savior's grace and peace in this journey. He has provided people to pray with them, walk out the journey with them (because they have walked it before), and support them by simple calls or texts letting them know they are praying. They have days of sadness and crying, but thankfully many more days of resting in God's plan.
Unfortunately, my mother also lost her job as a teacher's aide. Due to the cancer and surgery she would not be able to return to work until October. Unfortunately, they would not be able to hold her position unless she was available upon semesters start.
I am extremely grateful for everyone that has supported my mother and father in the past, both financially and spiritually, and most recently with my father's recent bout with prostate cancer. And I am grateful once more for those that can support them through my mother's bout with cancer, loss of job, and weight of medical bills.
Financial Need:
Lost monthly income of $1,360 (July-October)
Total: $5,440
Medical Bills up to this point (to be updated as bills are received)
Total: $600
As their son I wish I could lift this burden myself. I cannot do that alone but I hope to be able to with your help.
I know not everyone can contribute monetarily to this need and that is understandable. I do ask that whether you can, or cannot, contribute that you share this out to others that may be able to assist as well.

My mother's surgery took place mid-August with great results. Here's what Shelly had to say:
From Shelly:
Well, the first leg of the adventure is behind us. Surgery went as well as could be expected. All cancer was removed and pathology reports no cancer "as of now". I had my first follow up on August 17th and the Doctor said, "looking good!" He had to remind me that this is just the first step, we have many more appointments to go and I am still under strict restrictions. No lifting anything over 1 lb. and "no sweating". I like that one!
I have several very important appointments upcoming. One of which will be to remove the two drains that I still have and to work on reconstruction. The other appointment is my first time with the Oncologist to see what treatment looks like moving forward to prevent the cancer from returning. It's a marathon not a sprint. We are in this for the long haul.
God has been ever present each and every day. We are being well fed thru meals being coordinated thru our daughter Tiffany. Consistent contact and kind gestures thru our Community Group, and unexpected blessings consisting of everything from drop by visitors and cards, flowers showing up from fellow students of my children, to monetary gifts being handed to us anonymously. We are undeserving but extremely grateful!
