Emergency Fund - Shelley Martineau

As some of you may know on Saturday October 7th Shelley Martineau and her daughter, Vanessa Lafleur were involved in a serious car accident when a mini-van crossed over the line and hit them head on. They were immediately rushed to Hull hospital. Shelley sustained multiple injuries: 4 broken ribs, crushed sternum, cracked pelvis, badly broken foot and hand and head trauma, she has since had surgery to put in multiple screws pins and wires which will need to remain there for at least 2 months, she will require further surgery, casts and months of healing. Vanessa also suffered from a broken foot and hand, broken teeth and a large laceration over her eye which will require plastic surgery. Both Shelley and Vanessa have a long road ahead of them with physiotherapy and rehabilitation.
Anyone who knows Shelley knows that she is without a doubt always ready to lend a helping hand, she is the first one to drop everything and be there for anyone in need, she’s been involved with countless benefits and fundraisers never expecting as much as a thank you in return (at the time of the accident she was actually on her way to help set up for a birthday party, equipped with decorations, food and cake)….well this time she is the one in need.
There is never good timing for a crisis but these things tend to happen at the very worst time, none of us ever plan completely for the unexpected but the reality of a single mother is that there is no one to fill the void, the world keeps turning and the bills, the mortgage and heating costs keep coming in not to mention the added expenses of a crisis like this.
I am reaching out now to friends and relatives by asking for whatever assistance you feel you can give, any amount big or small is greatly appreciated. Money can’t heal them but hopefully we can help by alleviating some of the pressures of financial burden so they can concentrate on getting better.
It was a miracle that they both got out of that vehicle alive and for that we are grateful. I thank each and every one of you for your kind words and prayers…we are genuinely blessed to be part of such an amazing community and be surrounded by such loving people.
