<div>Hey everyone! We’re creating this Go Fund Me account on behalf of our amazing sister/daughter Shelby Mackenzie. On the morning of April 14th she was struck by a vehicle while she was rolling her trash can down her driveway. The driver of the vehicle that hit her fell asleep, ran her car up the curb and through the driveway, hit Shelby, and threw her approx 15-20 feet where she landed on the sidewalk on her head. She was immediately taken to BAMC where she was hospitalized for 7 days- a large portion of that time in the trauma ICU. She was diagnosed with 2 skull fractures, 3 subdural hemorrhages, a dissection of her internal carotid artery, and a complete rupture of all the ligaments of her right knee. We are SO incredibly happy to report that her head/neck injuries are all healing and she is slowly but surely getting back to her old self ❤️ She will need knee surgery in the future as well, though these plans are on hold until her neurological issues have resolved.

<div>Unfortunately, the driver of the vehicle that hit her had the very minimum required insurance coverage and absolutely NO assets. This means that although this accident was 100% someone else’s fault, Shelby will acquire ALL of the medical debt for her hospitalization as well as her future surgeries. Those of you that know Shelby are aware she is a single mother of a beautiful 3 1/2 year old, Olivia, who is the center of her whole life. Shelby has also been solely responsible for Olivia’s financial welfare for the last 3 years. Shelby is barely 2 weeks out of the hospital and already receiving bills in the $1000s that are going to continue to pile up fast. We are doing everything on our end to get a portion of this covered by insurance, but if she is unable to pay the minimum balances we have been told they will start garnishing her wages. This would be devastating for a single mother with an already VERY tight budget!
