Shelby's Emergency Colostomy

Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to look at my gofundme! My name is Shelby. On July 23rd, my whole life changed for the worst. I had been dealing with severe abdominal pain for about two weeks prior. Me, being a nanny to twins, I have no insurance so I couldn't go to a private doctor. Finally, even in this pandemic, I sucked it up & went to the ER. I just couldn't take the pain anymore. They immediately sent me to do a CT scan. Those results showed that I was born with something called diverticulosis. A disease where there are pockets in my colon that over time collect food & get infected. That's called diverticulitis. I had no knowledge of me having this disease before so I couldn't have possibly known to cater to it. Well, in my case, I waited so long to be seen, that one of the pockets had gotten so infected that it punctured through causing me to have a perforated bowel. That's what was causing so much pain. If I had waited any longer it would have caused me to go into septic shock so thankfully I went when I did. For the moment, the infection was contained, so they admitted me & put me on antibiotics, trying to avoid surgery. I was on those antibiotics for three days, with the pain still going strong. Within those three days, I had developed two large abscesses in my colon. They had to come out so surgery was inevitable. This was very very scary for me. I've never had surgery before, never been hospitalized. All this in the middle of COVID when I can't see any of my family was definitely hard to coupe with. The first surgery went okay at first, but then soon after nausea hit, along with fevers. I was still in pain. I couldn't eat, couldn't sleep. My face was starting to sink in, my eyes were getting dark. FaceTiming with my parents, it was hard for them to even look at me. I was miserable. The doctor ordered another scan. & he saw there was an air leak where they had sewn my colon back together. So I was hit with another surgery. This one, they removed a large piece of my colon & I woke up in my hospital bed with a colostomy bag. I had & still have every emotion about it. I'm only 24 & now I have this? It sent me into a deep depression. One I'm just now getting out of. I was in the hospital for 3 weeks & I'm doing everything I can to avoid going back. It's getting easier. I'm starting to get use to it. I have to try to be as positive as I can about it because I'm stuck with it for at least a year. & Even then, reversal surgery is considered an elective surgery now that I have it. So in order to do that I have to have insurance. With me not being able to work, my dad is the only one in the house bringing in money right now. So saying things have been tight is saying the least. All of the ostomy supplies on top of wound care supplies are extremely expensive. Not to mention the substantial amount of medical bills from two major surgeries.
