Shed Oxford Force Closure Without Funding Support
We need your help to save Shed Oxford.
Shed Oxford are a charity, currently based in the grounds of The Abbey Sutton Courtenay in Oxfordshire.
We have unexpectedly been given notice to vacate our current location, due to refurbishment of The Abbey, which will close for two years.
This has come as both and shock and upset to our members.
We must vacate by 31st May 2024, and are now seeking a new home within Oxfordshire.
At Shed Oxford we offer the chance to work alongside other like-minded people both sharing skills and learning new ones. Work on your own projects and hobbies as well as joining in with repair and renovation work for others. Where possible we use reclaimed materials and have a number of both manual and power tools in our workshop.
Shed Oxford helps to reduce loneliness and mental health issues. Without this space, there is a risk of our members becoming isolated.
Our Shed is more than a wood workshop…it is safe place, for a chat, a cup of tea, and some company.
We have been in contact with more than 30 locations, authorities, businesses, and landowners. Most of these leads were unsuccessful, however we do have some options that we are working hard to develop.
However, we need financial support. All of the options open to us require funding that we simply don’t have.
As a small charity, our only income is a small amount of monthly fees from our members. Our income is used to replace and repair our tools and machinery, and to keep Shed Oxford open.
We currently receive no funding from the government or lottery.
Any money raised will be used by Shed Oxford in its entirety.
This will fund the cost of rebuilding a new shed / building if we acquire some land; OR go towards removal costs of our existing machinery and set up if we are able to source a premise to move into.
We are being as transparent as possible, and at this stage in our plan…we have no firm location to move into.
If you know of anywhere that could home Shed Oxford, please contact us, so we can explore.
All we ask is that we have access to water, electricity, and parking and that it is financially viable for our small charity.
We are reaching out to you, for your support, and for your guidance.
More about Sheds:
Sheds are about meeting like-minded people and having someone to share your worries with. They are about having fun, sharing skills and knowledge with like-minded people and gaining a renewed sense of purpose and belonging. As a by-product of all of that they reduce isolation and feelings of loneliness, they allow men to deal with mental health challenges more easily and remain independent, they rebuild communities and, in many cases, they save men’s lives.
