SHE SERVED for female veterans

Donation protected

My name is Addy Tysdal.  I am a high school senior playing field hockey, basketball and lacrosse. I feel very fortunate to play the sports I love in a country where I am free to make my own choices.  I recently wrote a paper for my English class about women in the military and I was shocked by the lack of support many women receive both financially and emotionally after serving our country.  Their stories are astonishing.  Each year the number of female veterans in the U.S. increases by 18,000.  My Field hockey team would like to bring awareness to the needs of female veterans.  Our  campaign is called “SHE SERVED".  With the help of many volunteers and my awesome team-mates, I am working to raise money and to highlight the efforts of the women who have served.  And by the way, I intend to be one of them.

You can help by donating here.  Funds will go to Volunteers of America Colorado and the Clermont Commons facility for female Veterans.

We are holding a Military night game and we would LOVE to see you there.  We will be selling SHE SERVED jerseys and we will be honoring some amazing female veterans in our community.  If you would like to nominate a female veteran to be honored, please email [email redacted].

A recent study done by Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) found that only 27% of women veterans feel the general population treats them with respect.  These are women who pull into a veteran’s parking spaces only to be told they don't belong there.  These are women who are commonly told they don't "look like veterans".  As of April 2017, 15% of active duty military personnel were women—a 4% increase from 1990.  Most people don’t realize that 1/3 of VA hospitals do not have OBGYN doctors and female veterans are 2.5 times more likely to commit suicide than their civilian counterparts.
