Shay's 3rd Cancer Battle

Donation protected
After coming back for the 3rd time our beautiful Shay is going through treatment for Leukemia again!!!!!

This time after fighting to get rid of the cancer she now endures a long, invasive 10 weeks of radiation, chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant to get rid of it. Shay and her mum have been in Melbourne since 19th April to get the best treatment from the Royal Children’s Hospital again! And they expect that they will be in Melbourne until October. During this time Shay has only been able to have minimal visitors while she is in hospital (3 at a time) due to COVID restrictions.

When Shay enters the bone marrow transplant phase she is allowed to see 4 adults (this includes her parents) This means that again she will be unable to see her brother, grandparents, friends and cousins for this time. As a family again Julie, Damon, Shay and Jayd are separated for at least 6 months for the 3rd time over 4 years. While generously Shay and Jules have been given temporary accommodation in a leukemia apartment in Melbourne the family are currently running 2 households. This is financially taking its toll on the whole family and they would appreciate any donations to help over the coming months. As a teenager you can imagine that Shay is missing out on valuable, fun experiences with her friends at school. As since she was 11 she has been in and out of hospital with leukemia. Shay deserves to have what she needs in the coming hard months and it would be fabulous if money could buy small comforts. As you can imagine even an ice cream or salad roll cost a lot in the hospital but that is what they may have to live on for the next 4 months while in hospital.

Jules is very humble and would not ask for money that she didn’t need but she hasn't been able to work in the last 4 years as Shay's primary carer and they also have to pay for ongoing  medication.  Damon is trying to work extra hours (usually in Melbourne) to bring extra cash in while looking after Jayd in Bendigo. As this is the 3rd time in Melbourne and the first 2 times took a huge toll financially and the family are still recovering from these! Please think about supporting this family in a small way to assist them in the coming months, and to make Shay and Jules smile for a little bit. They deserve it!

With Jules' words:

'4 years of fighting this horrible cancer . 7 times Shay has lost her hair and now preparing for the 8th . 7 life threatening viruses . One major near death seizure. Countless lumber puncture and bone marrow aspirates . At least 100 life saving blood transfusions . Over 10 different types of chemo . Three times being told you have cancer
Countless parties events, school and life experiences missed . Potential sporting career gone . Fear of dying . Fear of treatment. FEAR.
Missing family and friends .
Covid lockdowns and cancer truly sucks
Constant Financial stress
Life constantly interrupted.
Making friends and having them pass away from leukemia
Isolated......... that’s just a snippet into our life.'
