Caesar’s Ford Theatre, Inc is developing a dramatic historical interpretation project entitled the Shawnee Living History Tour. This project will recount the history of the Shawnee Tribe in Ohio through the performing arts in an outdoor performance venue. Special attention will be placed on historical and cultural accuracy as well as artistic quality. The historical interpretation project will be performed at various sites in Greene County, Ohio and one site in Clark County, Ohio. Participants will travel by bus to the various historical locations and attend an outdoor theatre performance at each site as well as enjoy lunch at one of Greene County’s best restaurants. The project will be developed in three phases. Phase I is the Development Phase and is currently underway funded by a generous grant from the Ohio Arts Council. During this phase, the playwright will write a script in collaboration with two consultants who are members of the federally recognized Shawnee Tribe and the Eastern Shawnee Tribe. Phase II is the Pre-Implementation/Preview Phase and will take place from July 1, 2022 through May 31, 2023. During this phase, an abbreviated preview production will be performed and all necessary preparations for the third phase will be made. Phase III is the Implementation/Production Phase and full production of the project is planned for the late summer of 2023. Caesar’s Ford Theatre, Inc believes this project is valuable because it presents the Shawnee perspective of the early history of Ohio and Shawnee culture, assists in the preservation of the Shawnee language, and promotes travel and tourism in Greene and Clark Counties, Ohio. Caesar’s Ford Theatre, Inc seeks partners in our journey to restore the outdoor theatre tradition of Greene County by investing in Phase II and Phase III of this important project.
