Shave Your Head For Heroes In Red

Donation protected
Joanie Cullinan has been a Wellesley Firefighter for over ten years. While at an educational meeting held by the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts, she was offered a free skin screening. A screening that ultimately saved her life. Through follow up appointments, Joanie was quickly diagnosed with a Stage 3 Melanoma. She has undergone surgery, countless scans and is currently enduring chemotherapy.

Joanie is the most positive, upbeat, happy, fun loving human being. She has countless friends, so much family who love her and are rallying around her as she endures this treatment.

When Joanie's hair started to fall out, she decided she did not want to shave her head just to shave it. She knew if she was going to have to buzz all of her beautiful flow off, she wanted some good to come out of it. She felt that it was the perfect opportunity to raise awareness for occupational cancer and to raise money for others going through similar battles.

So in that spirit, we are working together, and with her fire department, to coordinate a Buzz-A-Thon. We are hoping for tons of people to come out and show support to Joanie, in her road to wellness as well as in her aspirations to make something so positive and impactful out of her experience, by coming down and having their heads shaved! Each person can be sponsored by their friends and family, and all donations will go to the Massachusetts Chapter of the Firefighter Cancer Support Network.

So please, help us by joining in on the fun. It should be an amazing day, with music, friends, family, refreshments and clippers buzzing away all day. You can use this link to donate to support your participant who is buzzing it all off, as well as if you would like to donate without a particular participant in mind.

Thank you so very much.
