Shauneik’s Cancer & Fertility Journey

In August 2020 our friend, sister, daughter, niece (the list goes on!) Shauneik Hargrove was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer.  As she bravely prepares for the fight of her life, she is also facing an unexpected and devastating reality.  Some of the treatment required to save her life, will most certainly diminish and possibly even eliminate her fertility, taking with it her dream to grow her beautiful family.  Thankfully her care team had a possible solution.  Fertility preservation by “freezing eggs” can offer her a chance to keep her dream alive.  Her eggs need to be harvested for safe storage before she begins her rigorous life saving treatment.  Unfortunately, due to limitations in insurance coverage, even with the help of grants specifically for cancer patients facing decisions like this, there is still a substantial “out-of-pocket” cost for treatment.  This unexpected expense is quite burdensome in a challenging time.

Shauneik is the loving and devoted mother of two beautiful children, Jahziyah and Jamal.  She is a caring friend, always there to listen and provide positivity to those in need.  Many of you also know Shauneik as a selfless and dedicated Medical Assistant.  She provides compassionate care to each patient she meets.  In these and her many other roles, she has brightened the days of countless people that have crossed her path.
