Shaun McCarthy's Brain Battle

Donation protected
On Friday 14th August 2020, my long-time mate Shaun McCarthy was told by his doctor that he has a 60mm brain tumour - the size of an orange - above his left eye. On Monday 17th August 2020, Shaun was told he needs emergency brain surgery within a week to remove the tumour, and that his recovery will take at least three months provided everything goes well.

Shaun is a 39-year-old born-and-bred Toowoomba family man who owns and operates Resident Restorations, a small, well-respected workshop that brings much-loved old vehicles back to life. Shaun is married to Stacey and together they have two beautiful boys: seven-year-old Benji, and one-year-old Maxi. Shaun is a St Mary's College 'Old Boy' and is involved in the local bmx/biking and car communities. He is an all-round top bloke, loving father, great husband, and well-respected in the Toowoomba community.

Earlier this year, Shaun told me about some headaches he'd been having. He explained that his vision got a bit blurry sometimes, and that he noticed balance issues when he rode his bike. After some encouragement from myself and his wife, Shaun decided to go to the doctor, as a 'precautionary measure', to get things checked out. He was completely shocked - like all of us - to learn that he has a massive brain tumour that needs to be urgently removed.

Being self-employed, if Shaun can't work, he doesn't get paid. Shaun's family rely on his income to pay their mortgage, buy their food, pay their electricity bills and school fees. Shaun also has a commercial workshop which he rents for his business. Contributing to this fundraiser will ensure that the McCarthy family can spend their time and energy on supporting Shaun during his recovery.  These funds will cover their living, business and recovery expenses, so that they do not have unnecessary worries. All funds will be directly transferred to Shaun and Stacey's personal bank account so that their expenses are automatically paid whilst he recovers.

On behalf of my mate Shaun, I thank you. This could happen to any one of us.
