The charges against Virginia's 2018 2nd Congressional District progressive candidate, Shaun Brown, has prompted the establishment of a legal defense fund as she seeks justice and fairness. Family and friends have established the fund to accept donations to defray attorneys’ fees and other costs related to legal representation in the case, the United States of America vs. Shaun Brown. Brown is the 2016 congressional Democratic nominee and former Bernie Sanders National Delegate.
The Brown University, London School of Economics, and St.Hilda's College, Oxford University graduate filed a civil rights administrative complaint in 2013 against the United States Department of Agriculture and Virginia Department of Health Summer Food Service Program regarding racial and political discrimination. It was later followed with a civil rights federal lawsuit in 2017. Weeks later Brown was indicted for her non-profit's 2012 child feeding program. Brown's recent mistrial has sparked considerable support as she continues to fight against child hunger and a new trial in October, a month before the November midterm elections.
