Shaun and Sophie’s Marathon Cancer Fundraiser

Tax deductible
This year, on the 30th of October, Myself and my girlfriend, Sophie Twomey, will run the Dublin Marathon in support of the Irish Cancer Society.

As some of you may already know, the fight against cancer is a particularly personal issue for me. On the 18th of October 2021, myself and my family’s worlds were turned upside down when my mother, Grace, passed away following her second battle with breast cancer. She was just 59 years of age.

Unfortunately, our family’s story is not uncommon among families throughout the country. Some recent studies indicate that 1 in 2 people in Ireland will develop cancer during their lifetime. It is getting to the point where everyone will be affected by cancer at some point in their lives, in one way or another. This statistic may be difficult to change but by providing the Irish Cancer Society with much needed funding which will help them increase awareness, provide care and support and fund vital research, we can make a huge difference in the early detection and treatment of patients.

Mum was the most selfless, kind and caring woman I’ve had the privilege of knowing and I feel blessed to have had her in my life. She is my biggest influence and role model and I constantly strive to reach the standards of kindness and decency she set throughout her life.

Mum went above and beyond and out of her way to help others. She had an extremely charitable spirit and never sought any recognition or attention for the help she gave others.

She was an avid walker as the residents of Letterkenny can attest to, regularly going on several walks per day to achieve her daily step target which she monitored rigorously.

Therefore, it will be a fitting way to honour her by completing the marathon wearing her Fitbit and thus keeping her steps, her journey and most importantly, her propensity to help others going.

I would be extremely grateful for any donations whatsoever to this extremely important cause.

Thanks

Shaun
