I’d like to introduce you to Dave. He is a gregarious fun loving guy who has a great group of friends and a passion for the outdoors, an active lifestyle as well as everything organic.
Dave is, more importantly, a 33 year old man who has been my best friend, my partner and ‘my rock’ for 10 years. My name is Trish and this is our story. The first cancer blow came in 2012 when Dave was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (HL). Not only was his treatment starting just after Christmas, his favorite time of year, but he’d also been unemployed for a few months so the financial strain only added to our already immeasurable stress and worry. We found our strength, persevered and made the
sacrifices necessary to make Dave’s treatment our focus. That period cost us not only a tremendous amount of energy and tears but saw our debt grow considerably. Dave returned to work only 8 weeks after chemotherapy in an effort to put our life back on
track. Then the good news we’d fought so hard for arrived -Dave was cleared of HL in April of 2013. We got the green light to start rebuilding our life looking forward to paying off our debt, saving for our engagement/wedding and a down payment on a home. We talked about starting a family. We were ready to put cancer behind us. Cancer had other plans.
In April of this year we returned to the Lymphoma Clinic for what we hoped would be Dave’s last visit. However, we were instead informed that Dave had new lumps that were later confirmed as malignant. Our plans, our hope and our life once again came to a grinding halt that day. As we came out of the fog of the 2nd diagnosis we realized that this battle was going to be different than the first. We are proud people who took this ALL on the first time. However, this time around we decided to open ourselves to outside support because the first time was hard enough. Our options seemed pretty limited but friends have rallied around us again to give us renewed hope and encouragement. We asked them kindly for help and they have stepped up. We realize that now is the time to be humble and ask for the assistance that we need to beat this. We reached out to friends, family, acquaintances and now strangers via this website. We are putting ourselves out there because Dave deserves a fair fight. We are going to win this!
The fund raising we are now undertaking will be covering a number of expenses that come with a cancer diagnosis. In addition to lost wages and commission there is the cost of: prescriptions drugs, transport to/from treatment, my unpaid time off to care for Dave, alternative therapy Immune System Management (ISM), subsidizing our rent and organic meals. Usually
at this stage of life we'd expect to be planning for our stag & doe, wedding, a new house or a baby. Instead we ask that you support Dave's health so that our life dreams can still come true. Invest in us so that we beat cancer and not have cancer beat us.
