Sharpe runs for ALS

Donation protected
For those of you who don’t know, Carrie and I are running the NYC Half Marathon on March 18th. We all have our reasons for attempting something and this is no different for us.  Carrie’s Uncle Rick was diagnosed with ALS four years ago and the Veteran’s Administration has provided him with the best of care and his positive attitude keeps him fighting.
Rick served in the Air Force in Southeast Asia in the late 1960’s where Agent Orange (a powerful herbicide which was used to eliminate tree cover) left 3 million people with health problems, including the most likely reason for his ALS diagnosis.
It is no secret that U.S. military veterans have increased risk of developing ALS (60 percent higher risk, in fact), and Rick agrees stem cell research could provide the answer to the fight of his life and so many others.
Rick is among the most gentle and kind hearted people you will ever meet and there is a possibility for a genetic correlation between ALS vulnerability and the same mix of genes making one a nice person.
As awful as this disease is, Uncle Rick has beeen amazingly strong and a true warrior through it all.  Carrie and I are running this race for Uncle Rick and all the people we know, love and/or miss who are not physically able to.  We are lucky enough to be blessed with good health and want to put it to good use.
Whatever the reason for Uncle Rick’s battle we hope you will donate using our Go Fund Me page.  I never ask for much but this would mean the world to us.  All money will go directly to ALS research.
