Sharon's Stand

Some scars, wounds or diseases do not necessarily reveal themselves
on the outside, yet they can have significant impacts and outcomes on our lives.

Some of you, who know me, know I was raised through the Foster Care Program in British Columbia.
What most of you do not know is that I experienced unimaginable sexual, mental
and physical abuse throughout that time.
Over the years, I have seen many therapists and have studied various healing modalities to help me heal and overcome the recurring flashbacks of abuse. I have found it very difficult to learn how to integrate abuse endured as an innocent child.

As many of you know, sometimes trauma can sneak up on us when we least expect it.
About a year ago, my recurring flashbacks began once again. The unresolved childhood trauma reared its ugly head and flattened me in a way I had never experienced in the past.
It suddenly became very difficult for me to function, to live a productive life, or work my daily job, which resulted in the inability to cover my bills.
The bank began threatening foreclosure and I ended up going into bankruptcy for $9000.00. Having been beaten both mentally and physically into submission throughout my life, I had never learned to trust anyone or ask for help.
I felt so much shame and self- blame. I kept it all safe inside, and so when I faced bankruptcy, I repeated the pattern, and kept it secret.
This past Christmas I came close to ending my life. I chose to call a friend and thank goodness, she came to my aid. As I have struggled over the last few months, my kind and loving friends have encouraged me to stand up and tell my story and ask for help. SHARON’S STAND is about standing up and exposing some of the horrors that I and many have faced in the Foster Care Program.
My goal is to get my mortgage paid down, to share my journey in a book, as well as the healing modalities that I hope will help others.

If you would consider a donation of $100 or $200, or any amount, I would be eternally grateful. I know that with the support of a caring community, I can heal, get back on my feet and make my contribution to society.
