We all know Sharon Pittman as a servant-hearted minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ and a friend to those in need. Many of you have even received ministry or worked alongside her to help others.
Many may not be aware of the amount of tragedy and calamity that has come upon her in the last few years. Sharon, now in her 70’s, has gone through job loss, a stroke, spinal meningitis, coma, and the loss of her home and the majority of her possessions. By the grace of God, she has lived through all this!
She is for the most part recovered, in her right mind, but left without a home, living out of her aging car, and in debt. Her debt is primarily medical care, and expenses associated with the loss of her home.. For someone who has served so selflessly, never been in debt, and is now in her senior years, this is not how she should be left. We, as the Church body and friends, cannot let this happen on our watch.
As someone who has known Sharon as an acquaintance for 15 years (she co-labored with my staff and friends in prison ministry and counseling), I am coming to appeal to you on her behalf. She is a fine person and is in a season of life where she needs help. We have taken her into our small community in South Carolina over the last 2 months and are making efforts to care for her and get her on her feet again. She is a joy to be around. Yet, more help is needed.
Sharon needs to recover from $18,000 of debt, a more permanent home to live in, and much needed car work. With her meager pension, she is not making it. In fact, for the past 5 years, she has only been able to pay the interest on the debt - nothing toward the principle. Biblically, it is up to us to take care of widows in our midst. She falls into the category of faithful widows, 1Timothy 5. So, we are appealing for you to help.
Please pray about sending financial help. Maybe you can pay the whole debt, or give a $100. It’s your opportunity to bless her in a time of need.
