Sharna’s Fundraiser for Thrombosis UK

Tax deductible
On the 31st March 2021 I was diagnosed with a DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) in my right leg & PE (Pulmonary Embolism) on my left lung. This was only 3 weeks after giving birth to my Son, Roman.

When I was told this news, I felt a wave of feelings, I was in so much pain with my leg and I was scared and worried, not for myself but of that slight chance of my children not having a mother so soon after being brought into the world. Which is why I am doing this 10K Inflatable Run for Thrombosis UK, who do so much in trying to educate everyone of what clotting of the blood really is and understanding ways to prevent it from happening (knowing the signs and risks).

So my story from diagnosis and being put on anticoagulation medication didn’t stop there, after several different scans showed that the clotting had dislodged from my right leg and travelled up towards my stomach it meant another change of medication. After leaving hospital I was prescribed new medication which meant I had to inject a fluid into my stomach for two weeks (which was just an awful experience), I then was given a new blood thinning medication, which I have been on for the past 8 months, I take it  day and night and it seems to be doing the job as my leg has shown massive improvement. Although taking this medication makes my heart race so I was also put on beta blockers to help with that.

The clotting on my lung has caused me long term changes, I struggle for breath, at times I even struggle walking (which I feel super embarrassed about as I am 22, and to the eye, in good health) so I feel myself explaining to new people why I struggle so much before the wave of embarrassment of people judging me kicks in...my anxiety from this whole thing sucks.

Currently my treatment includes, anticoagulation, a line of follow ups with Haematologists, Cardiologists and scans to check the state of the clots. But I am here, and this whole thing has opened my eyes as to how precious life is, so we must enjoy every second of it, with the people we love most.

So I have decided to participate in an Obstacle 10K run on Saturday 5th August 2022 at Goodwood Racecourse, Selhurstpark Rd, Chichester. I am asking for all of your help of donations... if you could donate absolutely anything at all, I would be so grateful. All money that I raise will be going straight to my chosen Charity, Thrombosis UK.

I’m doing this to promote awareness and raise money for Thrombosis UK, so that more people are familiar with blood clotting and will know the signs and ways to prevent clots from forming.

This is just my story, but please have a look at other people’s stories from the Thrombosis UK site, sadly this is much more common than a lot of people think and just having a little bit of knowledge on this subject could potentially help save yours or your loved ones life.
