Over the last year God has placed Haiti on our hearts. It is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere with an unemployment rate as high as 80%. We want to do something to change that. We have 3 incredible groups close to us doing amazing work in Haiti and we know we are called to begin our own journey and join them. We are humble to be in partnership with Impact, Global Groundworks and Compassion International.
This first trip is a short term missions trip yes, however we are building a long term relationship. Our intentions are twofold - one, to pave the way for taking groups from YPAC to Haiti in the future to help meet immediate needs, share the arts, and do whatever we can to assist the Haitian people. Second, to build relationships with artisans there to make use of Haitian goods and services that we can utilize in our business plans and create jobs in Haiti. Our goal is to ultimately empower Haitians by providing work and breaking the cycle of poverty.
We are traveling with our friend Katie Owings who has founded a non for profit called ImPACt. Together, we are making an impact using our gifts and talents to bring hope and love to the children and families of Haiti through the arts and serving in anyway we can.
Additionally our church is a partner with Compassion International. Recently we made a commitment to go on a 30 day fast from a distraction in our life. Right after we made that commitment we received a blessing. A little girl named Wislore who has the same exact birthday as our Brinlee who we now support through Compassion International. We recently received a letter from her father to pray for her intelligence and that she will learn a trade. It is our hope to empower her, inspire her and equip her to do great things in this world. We believe we will meet her the next time we travel to Haiti.
