On July 10, 2017, 8 year old Sammy Chesney began showing physical signs of what would ultimately result in the need for a bone marrow transplant. After numerous doctor's visits, tests and hospitalizations, the Chesney family are now preparing for something they never thought would be a need for their little boy.
Sammy is experiencing Severe Aplastic Anemia (with less than 10% of living cells in his bone marrow, ) a result of the viral hepatitis that attacked him earlier this year and almost resulted in a liver transplant. Sammy's mom, Kelsey is a nurse and is keeping an amazingly detailed journal of the timeline of this illness and updates on Sammy. If an immediate family member is a donor match, the transplant will occur immediately, otherwise the they will search a wider pool of donors over the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, Sammy will recieve blood transfusions on a weekly basis, as needed to maintain his platelet and hemoglobin levels, until the transplant occurs.
Both Jeff and Kelsey are nearing the end of their allotted paid time off already and there will be many more days they will want to be with Sammy during this process over the next several months, with mounting medical bills to boot. I have set up this account in hopes that whoever reads about their story might prayerfully consider a financial gift to bless the Chesney's during this difficult time. It is my hope that Jeff and Kelsey will be able to spend as much time with Sammy and their other two children, without concern for their finances, they have more important things to worry about than money right now.
