I had a brain aneurysm 20 years ago, relearning everything all over again. For my 20th celebration, my partner-in-crime, Tammy and I came up with a great idea to create original stories of other people's success stories bouncing back from a traumatic event. So, we are going to set out on a journey across the US capturing unique stories of people who had been in a traumatic event in their life and turned the hardship around to make a successful and happy life by never giving up. We need your help in donating to pay for professional filmmakers, travel, and to build our platform on the web to share these amazing stories. WHY:
My name is Kyle Mengelkamp and I am a creative producer. In September, Tammy and I teamed up and won AT&T's create-a-thon. We won the video contest by telling my story and how I am celebrating my 20th anniversary this year from having a massive brain aneurysm when I was 11 years old. After we won, we got a lot of messages from people in similar situations, a traumatic event in their lives, their struggle, and how they have overcome the hardship now living in happiness. This rang a bell in our head, why not share those stories and empower those with similar situations by starting a video platform called "Stroke of Genius." We will capture docu-style video content of success stories, people who have never given up, people who had a traumatic event but end up with a remarkable comeback. See, this is aligning perfectly with what I had always said, "I find, create, and share stories." This, however, isn't about me anymore. This is a mission bigger than you and me. It's about uplifting people to enrich others and help the community live happy and healthier lives. The journey is what's fascinating as we take to find these inspirational people, and share these remarkable stories with our community for others to become inspired. I found my calling, this is what I was meant to do.
PROBLEM:
Imagine having to relearn everything. You have support from family and friends. But you are unable to draw a deeper connection with someone who knows exactly how you feel. Doctors and nurses are life-changing, amazing! But what happens outside the hospital when patients become released? When someone has a traumatic event in their lives and they leave the hospital there is little or no support outside their family and friends. The fact is that we cannot do recover and live life alone. Millions of people who have traumatic events struggle from day to day, fight the battles, and often give up. It takes support, love, and inspiration to motivate the people in similar situations to continue to move forward. Addicts have AA, the military has the VA, what about traumatic injuries?
HOW:
We will:
- Travel cross-country to specific locations where we have found our next stories.
- Stay at Airbnb's along the way
- Travel in a Hybrid SUV
- Hire local crew, eat at local restaurants
WHAT:
1. Docu-series: a journey to find the most amazing stories to uplift and inspire people so people can make that special connection.
2. A video platform: Original Content created by #StrokeofGenius and Shared Content reposted on #StrokeofGenius
A place where people who have lost hope can become inspired to create a future, make a connection, and show the world we can do anything.
WHERE:
1. Video Platform: We will build and maintain a website called - www.shareyourstrokeofgenius.org. We will share the content with the world via social media - FB, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, etc.
2. Docu-series: Submit to film festivals, with the intention of getting picked up by Facebook Watch, Netflix, Amazon, Hulu.
COSTS:
We are asking for $20k to build the film platform, to hire the professional crew and get the first 5 stories out to the world, and create a docu-series that we will submit to film festivals. Your donation will help to recruit additional professionals as a national network to tell the stories regardless of geography.
