Her name was Shareen Amila – which means sweet, scholarly and intelligent. She was 13, full of life and relished in her role as the baby of five children. Shareen loved the outdoors and would run and ride her bike and roller skate all through the neighborhood. She loved babysitting and art. Like all families, Shareen’s family had dreams for her. Shareen had dreams for herself; as all children do. The family would laugh and talk about what they thought life would be like in 20 yeas when everyone was grown up with families of their own.

On Saturday night, the unimaginable happened suddenly. Shareen laid down, and never woke up again.  She was healthy, had always been healthy, she just had a little cold. She was up and laughing and talking, went to lay down, and a few minutes later her brother and sister called for their mom to come because something was wrong. For minutes that seemed like hours they tried to revive her, rushed her to the hospital, but she never woke up again. Shareen died of viral myocarditis, a swelling of the heart muscle.

As many of you know Shareen’s Mother Chanda (known to many students as Ms. AQ) has dedicated her career to education and taught hundreds and hundreds of students through the years. Let’s come together and offer any support that we can. Even though we may be separated by miles and years, we can come together and let them feel our outpouring of love during such a devastating time.
