Share Salisbury (A Library of Things)

What Is Share Salisbury?

Share Salisbury is a not-for-profit venture which hopes to provide Salisbury with its very own Library of Things. “What is a Library of Things?” I hear you ask! It is a Library  But instead of being full of books, it is full of stuff… useful stuff like home electrical items, gardening tools, children’s toys, hobby items, camping gear, DIY tools and SO much more!  There are successful ones popping up all over the UK in places like Frome, Bath, Glasgow & Oxford. We loved the sound of it so much we wanted to give Salisbury its very own ‘Library of Things’ too!

Sharing instead of buying new promotes a circular economy whilst providing access to items that may have previously been unaffordable, only required for a single use and/or impractical to store at home. We would like to be accessible to everyone within the community so will be offering reduced cost membership plans for people on low income.

We are hoping to raise a minimum of £5,000 to get this community venture off the ground. Although the more money raised, the greater the variety of things that will be available for you to borrow!

Why?

We believe that a new Library of Things would benefit Salisbury & its residents for the following reasons;

- Reduces social inequality at a local level
- Reduces waste going to landfill
- Saves your home from clutter
- Saves you money
- Is good for the environment
- Enables you to try new hobbies

What Will The Money Be Used For?

At least 60% of money raised will be used to Purchasing high value, good quality second hand (if possible) or new items for the library. Some of the first items we will be looking to include in the Library of Things are;

- Carpet cleaners
- Pressure washers
- Steam cleaners
- Hedge trimmer
- Sanders
- Drills
- Gazebo
- Projector
- Ladder
- Tent
- Gazebo
- Sewing machine

As the Library grows, we will invest in things our members decide would be most useful to them.

40% of donations will be used to pay for the boring stuff needed to get set up such as insurance cover, website creation, rent, card payment machine, PAT testing, health & safety training, consumables, marketing and transportation costs. Yawn!

Stretch Targets

£5,000 – This is the minimum required to get the Library of Things started
£7,000 – If we raise more, we will increase our storage and buy a large container
£8,000 – Will get a DIY workbench for people to use when visiting the library
£9,000 – Will allow us to purchase an electric bike to deliver items to your door
£10,000 – If we raise this we will commission a local artist to paint a mural
