HIV/AIDS Education and Prevention

Donation protected
Just imagine that you woke up one morning and found out you were HIV positive.  Now imagine you are 18 years old with your whole life ahead of you. YOU can make sure that young people in Orange County don’t have to face this reality.

Hi, my name is Sean and this is my reality.  Can you believe one in every four new HIV infections occurs among my age group, and 60% of my peers who have HIV infection don’t know it!  I was getting tested regularly but never really thought I would test positive.  Many of my friends don’t get tested. Do you get tested or know the status of the people you are with?

Shanti Orange County understands the importance of education and prevention in the campaign to reduce new HIV infections, stigma and discrimination, as well as increase HIV testing and access and care.  They go into our high schools, community colleges and universities to talk to us about HIV/AIDS, to encourage us to protect ourselves and get tested and to give us a reality check about HIV and all STD’s.  Their HIV + speakers are inspirational, honest and raw.  One of my peers wrote this: “The work you are doing at Shanti is changing lives, breaking down barriers, opening minds, and educating and enriching a generation that has the opportunity to forever change the course of HIV/AIDS.” Pretty cool, right?

HIV/AIDS is one of the world’s most serious and devastating health issues and has affected over 75 million people, half of those no longer with us.  In the US alone, there are 50,000 new HIV infections each year.  Shanti is asking YOU to fund them in their effort to raise $50,000 to enhance and expand their prevention education and community outreach programs.  They are in need of new technology, educational materials and funds to provide trainings, seminars and other innovative programs and services.

Shanti is a small nonprofit dedicated to people living with HIV/AIDS in Orange County.   Their mission since 1987 is to preserve the dignity and well-being of individuals living with HIV and AIDS by providing life-enhancing supportive services, education and psychological care.

One of Shanti’s messages is to become an advocate for yourself and for others so now I am asking you to support them because I believe in what they do.
