To my family and friends,
The morning of April 29th 2016, Mark and I sat nervously waiting for the doctor to come in with the results of my latest PET scan. We tried our best to put on a strong front for the other by staying positive and hopeful. We laughed in the room, tickled each other and even tried to sneak in a few cookies before the nurse came in. What seemed like just moments later, we were in the parking lot holding each other feeling like the world had come crashing down on us…again.
Unfortunately, the cancer has come back in my abdomen in what appears to be my lymph nodes. I just looked at my doctor and said, “This is number 4.” He replied, “I know Shannon, and I am so sorry.” I wish Mark and I were able to ask more questions at the time, however, we both were not ready for the moment and everything seemed to turn into a large blur. On Monday, we will visit with my other doctor to determine where we will go from here. However, we are fairly confident that my next steps will include searching the country for a trial study that I am a candidate for. Trial studies are not FDA approved and therefore, not covered with insurance. I will update you all as soon as we have more information.
Asking for help is such a scary thing as it forces you to accept that you can no longer do it alone. Makes me think of a quote I once read, “Speak, even if your voice shakes.” Although my voice is shaking, I am asking for your help.
From the bottom of my heart, I appreciate every single penny that is donated to help cover the costs of my treatments. You have no idea the help it has provided Mark and I to ensure that I am receiving the best care possible. I will forever be indebted to your help, whether it be financially or spiritually.
