Shane Weigel Lost Home to the Marshall Fire

Donation protected
On December 30, 2021 Shane Weigel lost his home and all his belongings to the Marshall Fire in Superior, Colorado. He was fortunate to get out alive about 20 mins before the fire consumed his house. The only thing that remains is the foundation. Shane is someone who would give everything to someone else and never expect anything in return. He also is too modest to ask for anything. That's why I'm doing it for him.

Update: With all the clothing being sent Shane's way, we decided to take down the request for clothing until we can get an inventory of it all and see what else is needed. Thank you all so much for all your donations!

Updates from Shane:
1/8/22:
I was able to get to my house for the first time yesterday and take a look at the damage from the Marshall fire. It truly felt like I was driving through a post apocalyptic nuclear bombing site. It was weird to see some house appearing untouched while ones right next to them completely gone. Seemed like most of the ones that made it had stucco exteriors. The glass and rims on my truck were melted. Also, sad to find out that one of the people that died was my neighbor who was in her house a couple hundred yards away. Grateful to be alive, for the community stepping up above and beyond, and the support from friends, family, and strangers. The cause of the fire is still being investigated. Was originally thought to be a downed power line, but it was found to have started in someone's shed. It appears the house that owned the shed is still standing.

 1/1/22:
I went to check on my house today, but wasn't allowed to drive down Marshall Rd. I did get this picture from the highway showing it with only the concrete basement remaining. It's what I was expecting.
(Truck also burned.)

12/31/21:
I'm so grateful for how much support and encouragement has been sent my way after losing most of my belongings. Many have asked if there is anything they could do to help. I currently have a place lined up to stay for a little while.
Any non-consumable essentials you may think of would most likely help out. (Packages can be sent to Shane at the address above.)
I absolutely hate asking for money, but if you feel inclined my Venmo is @Shane-Weigel and PayPal is [email redacted]
The last 4 digits of my phone number are 1806 if they ask for it.
Really appreciating all the love and support and please do not feel any obligations to help, your verbal support is more than enough!
12/31/21:
I almost died yesterday by sleeping through a fire that spread from the ignition point to where I was staying in under 20 minutes. I woke up because my business partner showed up early and I wanted to catch him up on the status of things. I noticed a smell of smoke and saw a cloud forming in the distance. The fire spread so fast that there was no notice of evacuation. I left to run an errand thinking the fire was far enough away, but the smoke was so intense I never made it to my destination. While I was heading home, my partner called to let me know the the house was surrounded by fire and he barely made it out alive. The side of his car ended up being scorched by the flames. The high wind was spreading the fire over a 100 yards every few seconds. I lost a lot of things in that fire, but I'm grateful that I did not lose myself. I was in the process of moving into a place in Superior, CO and had most of my stuff moved in, but waiting to be organized. I wasn't able to grab any valuables from the house since it came so quickly without warning. Things can be replaced, people cannot.
I'm grateful for the new perspective on life this has given me. Don't wait for tomorrow because tomorrow may never come. Don't ever lose sight of what you stand for in life.

 From Shane 1/4/22:

Never take for granted the people that you have met along the way. They may show up one day for you in unexpected ways.

The amount of support I've gotten through friends, friend of friends, family, and people that I don't know has been more than I would have ever imagined. Its keeping me busy trying to keep in top of thanking everyone. Rest assured, if I haven't thanked you yet, it will be coming, but for now take this blanket thank you as a place holder. Thank you!

I'll never forget all the generosity.

I believe in paying good acts forward and this is what makes our communities strong and able to look at the future with positivity. Peace, love, and happiness.
