Shana's Masters World Weightlifting

Many of you know me as a CrossFit athlete and coach. Some of you know me as a Grid athlete. Some of you I know from a previous life as a musician.  ALL of you have been unbelievably supportive throughout my career and the lion's share of my accomplishments would not have been possible without all of your generous help.

I had pretty much decided that I was going to retire from competition. After being diagnosed with stage 3 adrenal exhaustion and ending up with some injuries that seemed insurmountable, I thought I would certainly be hanging up my athlete's hat. Taking almost 18 months off refreshed and rejuvenated me and after doing a few weightlifting meets "just for fun," (weightlifting has been a passion of mine since CrossFit got me hooked on it  in 2008) I ended up qualified for the 2016 Masters World Weightlifting Championship.  Retired...??!!  Right.

Words really are inadequate to describe how honored I am to think that I could possibly represent the USA at Worlds and I can scarcely believe it's happening at this point in my life. And so now, I find myself training for competition again as a 40-44 yr, 63kg weightlifter. I hadn't anticipated these meets "just for fun" would lead down the path of my competing on the world stage or what that would mean for me financially.

The competition will take place in Heinsheim, Germany in October 2016. As you might expect, the cost of competing combined with traveling to, from and around Germany is high. Add to that athlete fueling and services, entry fees, etc, and a trip of this magnitude is not currently within my means.

This brings me to the reason I've necessarily started this GoFundMe campaign. It seems that I must again rely on the generosity of an amazing community. I would be thrilled to represent our great country on the world stage in weightlifting and make all of you proud for our sport on the international scene!

If you'd like to support my goal, I hope you'll consider donating towards my fund. I already feel such gratitude for the opportunites I've been given as an athlete over the years and am excited for this next leg of the journey. If you're reading this, you've likely been a part of it in some way over the years, and I'd like you to know how appreciative I am for your support.

Sincerely,
Shana A.
