James Shanahan Medical/Family Fund

James Shanahan is in critical condition, fighting for his life as the result of a devastating asthma related emergency. His family has become overwhelmed with the sudden and unexpected expenses - travel, lodging, parking, and loss of work.
Jim, as some friends and family know him, was struggling for breath and then lost consciousness as a roommate and others administered CPR for 15 minutes. Jimmy’s condition declined further, moving from asthma complications to cardiac arrest, multiple seizures, and finally a medically induced coma. After a frantic search, Jim’s family in Buffalo, NY were contacted 12 hours after the incident.
Jamie and Vanessa, Jim’s parents, and brothers Chris, Tom, and Ryan quickly went to New York City to be by his side. Sadly, James’ condition has not improved despite the excellent care he has received at New York Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital.
The situation is dire and the family continues to wait at his bedside, waiting for any improvement or encouraging prognosis.
Upon learning of the significant expenses associated with this situation I talked to the family about setting up a GoFundMe in their name, and they have agreed.
The first expenses will be to help the family stay at Jim’s side. Some of the expenses include: parking costs ($65 a day in NYC!), hotel rooms, meals, hospital costs, and the back and forth travel to their homes in Buffalo, NY.
Secondly, any additional funds beyond the basic travel and lodging expenses (for his parents and brothers) will be used for the needs of James Shanahan. As of today, no one can say for certain what those needs may be.
In addition to donations, we ask for prayers for Jim, his family, and his medical team.
