Shaker High School FIRST Robotics, a team of 9th‐12th grade students who work together each year to design and build a complex 120‐pound robot. Shaker Robotics is an academic team dedicated to bringing science and technology not only to our members, but also to our community. As has been the case for the last 6 years, we are participating in the annual FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). A unique varsity Sport for the MindTM, FRC is designed to help high‐school‐aged young people discover how interesting and rewarding the lives of engineers and scientists can be. Throughout the year our team members develop their mechanical, computer, and electrical skills; engage in public speaking, practice time management; and build their work ethic.
Because this challenging endeavor requires considerable funding, we hope that you will support the team with a tax‐deductible donation.
Building a robot is a challenging and time‐intensive undertaking, but absolutely worth the effort and time! Besides being a fun STEM‐focused learning experience, it is an excellent opportunity for students, professionals and supporters to partner in support of the youth who will grow to become the much‐needed engineers and technicians of tomorrow’s labor pool. Participation in robotics exposes students to careers in science, technology, engineering, and math that they might not have considered otherwise, and arms them with knowledge and confidence that leaves them more prepared to pursue challenging careers in this digital age.
Engineers and mentors from a variety of disciplines serve as advisors and role models, showing students how math, science, engineering and technology are used to solve problems in the real world. They employ and teach their own project management and idea creation skills, demonstrate the importance of teamwork, and teach students the importance of perseverance. FIRST Robotics benefits students involved in the team, but it also helps our sponsors with a tax deduction.
