My name is Shaka Shakur and I am a 53 yr old grandfather, father, son and political prisoner. I'm also a writer, revolutionary theoretician and servant of my community. I'm currently fighting for my life, future and survival. I am a politcally active prisoner who is seeking donations so that I can hire a lawyer for a post-conviction appeal.
You see I was railroaded by the criminal justice system for the attempted murder of a cop after a bogus traffic stop and sentenced to 65 yrs. I've served 18 yrs of that sentence and while I have a network of family and supporters fighting for my release, I'm in need of a progressive and committed attorney who isn't afraid of the politics of my case. There are attorneys who are interested in my case and know that I got a raw deal, but again that take resources that I don't have.
My case was high profile and extremely political because of my politics. A case that should have simply been that of criminal recklessness, was staged into that of a charge of attempted murder. Where the crime scene was staged, where critical physical evidence disappeared and the forensic evidence did not match or support the theory (or the charge) that was being presented about the case. I was just another New Afrikan/Black victim of the multi billion dollar business/industry known as mass incarceration.
If I'm to make it back to my family and live beyond this experience, I need to raise funds for my legal defense and an attorney.
Recently I was moved out of the state of Indiana and shipped to Virginia away from my family and supporters in retaliation for organizing and politicizing my fellow prisoners. This is after serving 13 yrs in solitary confinement for being politically active behind the walls and reaching out to my community. Since being in Virginia both my grandmother and sister has passed all within a 90 day period. Being so far away from my family doesn't allow me to give or receive support or comfort from or to my family.
I would deeply appreciate any and all support that youre willing to offer.
