ShaGa Community Classes Online

Our latest Update (below) has all class links!

Our hearts are with all those suffering during these challenging, unprecedented times. We know that many people are in need of self-care right now (including us!). Because of this, we are expanding our ShaGa classes online to help movement and healing reach bodies and souls around the world. As a way to provide connection and community through movement, we are offering 8 ShaGa classes per week! Classes are open to everyone, no matter your age, experience, or location in the world. Groove with us from the comfort and safety of your own home!

We are teaching these classes on Zoom, a free application accessible from your phone, tablet or computer. Zoom does not require participants to have individual accounts in order to join a meeting. Just simply register at the link for each class below, and you will get access! Register ahead of time for multiple classes, or sign up a few minutes before class and jump right in! Zoom meeting links are emailed to you after you register.

Classes are entirely donation-based and we encourage those who are able to give what you can. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

All donations received will go directly to support our ShaGa Teachers and ShaLeigh Dance Works company members who are without financial security in these challenging times.

We are truly grateful for any support you can give. We know that many of us are experiencing financial challenges right now, so we also appreciate your help in simply sharing our fundraiser, inviting your friends and family, or leaving comments to share your experience with others.

More About ShaGa

In ShaGa, we move from our body, the ultimate refuge. We allow our bodies to become our teacher and our healer.

ShaGa is a movement practice of self-discovery, healing, and awakening to our deeper resources. It opens us up to the capacity to experience movement as a source of healing and vitality. We discover that by inhabiting our bodies more fully, we are able to more fully inhabit our lives.

ShaGa is about Healing. We give ourselves permission to find deeper resources that expand our movement potential, reduce tension and atrophy in the body, and illuminate paths towards personal transformation. We take time to listen to our pain on a molecular level and discover layers of guidance. We discover the healing power of working at a very low volume of effort, so we can go places where pleasure in the movement is awakened.

ShaGa is about Permission. We take time to be curious and to listen to the body. We practice giving ourselves permission to follow our own, unique guidance rather than telling it what to do. As we encourage our innate, inner rhythms, we experience freedom inside our movement and inside our minds while connecting our bodies to our imaginations. We give ourselves a physical pathway to experience and re-experience ourselves. We welcome whatever arises as a guide. We refuse nothing and discover we can enjoy everything.

Who is this fundraiser for?

This fund has been created to support our teachers and dancers who have been financially impacted by widespread gig cancellations due to this global pandemic. 100% of funds will go to them. Our artists rely on performances, classes, and events in order to pay the bills directly aligned with their costs of living. Our ShaGa Teachers and SDW company members are independent freelancers without the ability to work during these hard times. Our goal is to provide emergency funding to help them with financial support for rent, food, utilities, and medical needs.

Please give as generously as you can, if you are able.

Artists are some of the hardest hit among the millions of Americans currently facing unemployment and financial hardships. The pandemic could knock out the performing arts as we know them if there isn’t a renewed sense of how essential they are to our lives and our communities. Artists around the world are adapting to shutdowns by swapping physical performance spaces for virtual ones. Social distancing has come at a great price for our artists and our community. We are looking for creative ways to stay connected during a crisis that is keeping us apart. Of all the necessities we now feel so keenly aware of, our well-being is central to the crisis we are experiencing now. In the spirit of connecting and healing with each other, we are offering these ShaGa classes online. We hope to provide opportunities for everyone to come together to heal our bodies, change our stories, and break the walls that surround us.

We can get through this TOGETHER!

Our bodies are essential to everything we do, yet they are one of the most neglected aspects of our daily lives. Now more than ever we are in need of opportunities for mental, physical, and emotional hope and wellbeing. Movement is one of the most basic and honest forms of communication between our minds and bodies as well as the world. It is a documented path toward physical and mental health, and can enhance our self-confidence, reduce stress and depression, promote relaxation, provide an outlet for self-expression and creativity; and it’s FUN!! ShaGa can bring healing vitality to our daily routines from the safety and comfort of our own homes. Together, we can allow the subtleties of our unique experiences and beliefs to be transformed into a new kind of physical courage and a dynamic healing force that can change our stories.

We are excited to celebrate the power of our interconnectedness to welcome you to join us in sharing, healing, and enjoying the pleasure of moving together.

We hope you will join us! Invite your friends and family to join, and help us share it with the world.
