<div>In 2009 deed ik, Renske Bloemers (inmiddels huisarts), een co-schap tropengeneeskunde in Malawi, waar we in contact kwamen met de familie Chaponda. Een medestudente, Patricia, en ik, startten een project waar vele vrienden en kennissen jarenlang aan bijgedragen hebben met als doel om alle kinderen van deze familie naar school te kunnen laten gaan om hun kansen te vergroten. Dat is gelukt.

<div>Nu, 16 jaar later, is de destijds allerkleinste van het stel, Shaffie, 22 jaar oud. Enkele maanden geleden is hij aangenomen voor de opleiding 'Certificate in Pharmacy' aan het Ekwendeni College of Health Sciences, een tweejarige farmacie opleiding. Een bijzondere kans, maar de familie heeft niet de middelen om dit te financieren.

<div>Het is wellicht een druppel op een gloeiende plaat en natuurlijk weet ik dat de wereld op zoveel plekken in brand staat, maar voor een land als Malawi waar een groot tekort is aan gezondheidswerkers en infrastructuur, wil ik tóch kijken of ik Shaffie vooruit kan helpen met enkele donaties.

<div>Mocht je een bijdrage willen leveren, hoe klein ook, dan wordt dat enorm gewaardeerd. Het geld zal initieel op mijn rekeningnummer binnenkomen, waarna ik met oog op de transactiekosten een groter bedrag in één keer over zal maken naar Malawi. Gezien de vele jaren dat we dit gezin al hebben ondersteund, heb ik het vertrouwen dat het geld echt ten goede zal komen aan zijn opleiding.
