Student Games Festival 2020

Donation protected
This fund is to support running the Student Game Developer Alliance in running the Summit, a free student focused GDC-like event between universities across California and industry professionals in the games industry.

If you feel like SGDA has helped you in some way, this is your chance to give back to the community.
Or if you want to support student game development, please consider donating to the event.

The Student Game Developer Alliance (SGDA) is an organization between student game development organizations across California with the mission of supporting and encouraging aspiring game developers. Help support our mission by donating to sustain the SGDA Summit, an annual games conference that connects student game developers across California and industry professionals.

----------What is the SGDA Summit?----------

A student focused conference hosted by SDGA that connects students and industry professionals in the games industry. Since its inception, it has been free and open to our community.
It hosts talks, panels, and workshops focused on various aspects of development from working developers and students alike. It is also home to the only in-person, cross state showcase of student made games where students can celebrate their work and share their passions.

----------What’s new for 2020: the Summit and IEEE----------

2020’s conference is planned to be part of a new, larger event called The Student Games Festival, a working collaboration with another large student games organization.
We will be releasing further details about our collaboration in the future.

----------Why we need your help----------

In previous years, the Summit’s venue costs, food, and promotional materials were entirely funded through large donations from a few generous members of the SGDA community. This has proved to work after the Summit was able to see 200 students being travel across California to Cal Poly Pomona for the 2019, but this model has grown to be neither sustainable nor possible for a volunteer run organization to handle.
Moving forward, we would like to offer the chance to people who are able to give back to their community or interested in supporting the next generation of game developers to help SGDA keep the Summit running.
Above all, our goal is to keep the conference free for students.

Please consider helping us in our mission to give student game developers a community of education, peer support, and passion by donating to keep the 2020 conference afloat. Thank you!

---------------- Quotes from Previous Feedback Surveys ----------------

"The SDGA Summit  has awesome speakers from industry, and the representatives were helpful and invested"

"I enjoyed getting to reconnect with some industry professionals, and make some new friends before and after the talks. It was also a personal highlight to take notes on some of the words of wisdom that was shared."

"I had a really good time, and the signature cards for playtesting was a really great idea. I don't have any complaints, and everyone did a great job."

"I was a panelist, highlight was hearing everyone's diverse opinions on game development."

"Great job. This was a very fun experience. Especially at Cal Poly Pomona. Loved the venue and the accessibility. Even as an industry professional, I found this Summit valuable."

"Really enjoyed the use of signature cards to encourage people to actually play games. I'm usually more of a spectator, but having that sig card encouraged me to actually wait in line to play games, and that felt great."

"I think interacting with other student game devs was the highlight of my summit. With all the workshops and panels and showcases with no breaks, there wasn't any time to take a slower moment. During lunch, I was able to have a slower, casual chat with some other folks, and that was great."

"I enjoyed all the talks! In particular, Tim Ford's talk was very interesting. Most devs giving talks explain how they got into the industry, but instead he covered a specific aspect of working in his field. It was really different and a cool topic to bring up."

"I enjoyed hearing advice from older students about how to succeed in this field. Plus Ittai and Peter are super engaging (and hilarious) presenters, so their whole workshop was a lot of fun."

"All of the games were great! I liked the trivia behind <3k runner in particular."

"Michael's workshop was extremely useful for someone who is a bit of a novice to software engineering. Peter and Ittai's workshop was really enjoyable, and I wish it was recorded."

"I'm sorry that this isn't constructive I just enjoyed things. Thanks for a fantastic event! :)"

"I don't know I'm bad at coming up with constructive criticism I just had lots of fun and learned a lot."
