Hello Everyone,
My name is Mabel and I'm from Los Angeles, CA. My heart is heavy as I write this message. I just found out my father's home has been destroyed after Hurricane Maria. His roof did not sustain the storm and has flooded his home damaging the interior, all furniture and sentimental belongings. All that he has worked for is destroyed. He is safe but has no home. I finally heard from him today, 9/26, five days after the hurricane wiped out Puerto Rico. He had no access to communicate until today. He ran out of water and is searching for some in a nearby town. The line for food and gas are hours long and they are all feeling the hunger pains. The roads are destroyed, there are dead animals on the street and debris everywhere. He is collecting water from the rain and boiling it with a small camping stove. Not one person is able to leave the island. I'm asking for help to raise money to fix his home. The damage estimate is roughly $10,000 which will cover the basics to fix the roof, pay for labor and materials. We will also redo the walls inside the house. All furniture is destroyed as well. He is a hard working, loving man who has put so much time and money (all his money) to build this house with his own hands. To see it in its current condition is devastating. For the first time in his life he is homeless. I will fly out there personally once flights are allowed and help with family to rebuild the house. I feel helpless and for the first time in my life and, I am asking for help. I can't do this alone. I ask from the bottom of your hearts for your support. Anything would be greatly appreciated.
