Hey everyone, my name is Elliot Speiser and i’m a licensed animal rehabber based in Brooklyn NYC. I have an appointment on Wednesday April 9th 2025 with Dr Halasz at Center for avian and exotics for my senior American fantail pigeon, Paloma.
Paloma has a pretty extreme foot deformity, so her toes all curl to varying extents and her legs are skewed causing extra pressure when she walks.
Since she’s elderly, her walking and joint problems have become progressively worse over time. She came to me this past year from someone who unfortunately was battling late stages of cancer and had Paloma for 9 years. Paloma has always had walking issues and her foot deformity.
The vet and I will be going over advanced arthritis protocols to help alleviate some of her foot problems including various supplements including glucosamine and omega 3 mixtures (and more) to help alleviate some of the pressure on her joints and potential arthritis treatments. We will also be running bloodwork to make sure her liver and kidneys are in good shape as some medications including metacam can further affect those if there are any problems in that realm.
Further ongoing support with other veterinarians will likely be needed as well to make sure she is getting the best possible care.
After speaking with various rescuers and colleagues, I was told very helpful advice that I will go over in depth with the vet including supplemental mixtures as well as a device called an Assisi loop that can help with potential joint/arthritis problems as well.
This fundraiser is to help with the costs of her initial checkup, medical tests, supportive ongoing care and medications that she will likely need.
I am currently working full time, and as of this fall also going back to university to start in a pre vet tech program. That being said money is pretty tight currently, but I would like to do everything I can to help my precious Paloma get the proper care she needs.
In the chance that there are extra funds raised, they will be put towards her ongoing care as well as to further care and supplies for my rescue work.
Thank you for reading all this and thank you to all those that donate ❤️
