Orphanage Care in Nepal

Donation protected
Who are we?
We are a group of 5 enthusiastic and hard working students of 'The Sixth Form College Farnborough' with a passion to make a difference. We have been lucky to receive an amazing opportunity to take part in a project volunteering abroad in Nepal. Therefore, we would all appreciate you supporting this enriching and life-changing orphanage care volunteering project, not just for us, but for the orphans and local community in Nepal to build them as individuals and make their environment a safer and cleaner place to live.

Our goal
We all wish to lend a hand to the vulnerable children of Nepal, most who have lost their loved ones and have been severely affected due to the devastating earthquake that took place in April 2015. Throughout this project, we strive to help them in their studies and show them the importance of education but also to help build their self-confidence, talk about body positivity, learn to have belief in oneself and their traditions, learn about equality, anti-bullying and many more. We would like to help build them into unique individuals in order to prepare for their bright future that is ahead of them, no matter their situation.

Our action plan
Our main source of donations are through your generous donations so since March 2018, we have all been collecting donations from our close friends and family, but also spreading the word about our project through leaflets and social media.

We have also taken part in many events in order to raise money such as:
- Gurkha Cup 2018 (Aldershot)
- Car Boot Sales (Farnborough)
- Deusire (Nepalese cultural singing at different homes; similar to Christmas Carols)
- Arirang Art: Kpop Dance Competition (New Malden)

But we are going to involve ourselves in more events such as hosting dance classes, having a cake sale, street busking, competing in dance competitions, completing a triathlon and many more!

Once we are in Nepal, we will be aiding a local orphanage or children's centre in Kathmandu, which our group researched and contacted beforehand.

We are hoping to:
- give the children love and affection
- help them with their school studies
- act as an older sibling to the children
- assist the children with their daily activities
- accompany them on small excursions
- teach them the importance of self-belief

UPDATE (19/04/19):
For the past few months, we have been contacting many different orphanages in Nepal and successfully have decided to volunteer at "Buddhist Child Home" located in Jorpati,  Nepal. The Buddhist Child Home is a is a "non-religious, non-sectarian, and non-profit making humanitarian organization, dedicated to the welfare of orphans, helpless children and children in need". I thank Durga Mainali (chairwomen) for providing us with this opportunity.

Please visit their website for more information about who they are and what they do:

Nepal
Nepal is located in the Himalayas and bordered to the north by the People’s Republic of China, and to the south, east, and west by the Republic of India. With an area of 56,827 square miles and a population of approximately 30 million. Kathmandu is the capital of the nation and a treasure house of ancient art and culture.

Nepal may not be the most popular holiday destination but it has many natural, beautiful landscapes that you will not regret seeing. The most fascinating thing about Nepal is that it houses the highest mountain in the world, Mt.Everest (8.848m).
