SFC Class of '19's House Build

Tax deductible
Build A Miracle (BAM) is a San Diego-based nonprofit founded in 1999. BAM seeks to aid impoverished families living in Tijuana, Mexico by providing them with sturdy homes, high school and college scholarships, and community programs including music lessons, tutoring, therapy, and job training. BAM began with founders Chris and Julianne North, and has now, through the help of church and school groups, as well as dedicated families and individuals, has built over 290 homes for families in Tijuana. These families, who had previously lived in small, dirty shacks, are for the first time able to experience the peace of mind and dignity that comes with having a roof that does not leak, electrical wiring that is not outside the walls, and a bathroom with a shower and a toilet that is not seperate from the rest of their home.

For the last two years, the junior class at Santa Fe Christian School in Solana Beach has banded together and raised the funds to build a home for a family in need in Tijuana. Besides collecting money, the students also traveled to Tijuana on three occasions to meet the families in the community and provide manual labor for the builds. Now it is time for the class of 2019 to step up to the challenge. We are working directly with BAM on this project, and we aim to raise $16,000 -- enough to build and furnish one safe, sturdy, five hundred-square foot home. $10,000 will go to materials, $3,000 to skilled labor, and $3,000 to furnishings.

The family who will recieve the home are pictured -- a single mother and her four children. The mom's name is Johana Lizeth Valenzuela. She's twenty-seven years old and had to leave school before finishing elementary school. She is unable to have a formal job because of her lack of education, so she sells used clothing at the sobreruedas, (literally, "market on wheels"). These are swap meets in different communities and are where many Tijuana families purchase their clothes. Because this is not a formal job, Johana does not have health care. Despite this difficult job, Johana is extremely involved in Build A Miracle and has been for over a year. Her children are Johana Sarai (12), Jesus Antonio (10), Luis Fernando (8), and Briza Marbella (7).

Please help us to reach our goal and to change this family's life for the better!
